Key LSU Policies Related to Teaching

Please see below for a curated list of LSU policies related to teaching.

Permanent Memoranda

Permanent Memoranda (PMs) represent policies of LSU. Along with the bylaws and regulations of the LSU Board of Supervisors, they are binding on all institutions of the university. PMs address policy issues that are of a system-wide character and are established for the purpose of university administrative governance. PMs may implement or interpret laws, rules and regulations, and reflect LSU policies.

  • PM-3: Additional Compensation and Compensation: Faculty and Full-Time, Non-Classified Employees
  • PM-11: Outside Employment of University Employees (LSU A&M PM-11 form)
  • PM-73: Policy Prohibiting Sex- and Gender-Based Harassment and Discrimination, including Sexual Misconduct

Policy Statements

Policy Statements are created for the purpose of institutional governance by way of establishing standard procedures for the operation of the university. Congruent with Article X. Sec. 1 of the Bylaws of the Board of Supervisors, faculty are charged with determining the educational policy of the university and are consulted as such. Policy Statements, which apply to LSU’s Flagship institution based in Baton Rouge, serve to implement or interpret various laws, rules, regulations, policies, and/or to reflect the university’s chosen method of managing its affairs.

Academic Continuity Plan

The purpose of this plan is to provide guidance to LSU faculty and academic administration on the continuation of the university’s academic mission during campus closures, or partial campus closures, when classes are in session. Similarly, guidance is given to faculty teaching online when they may have students in other parts of the world affected by a widespread emergency situation. This plan describes communication about campus closures and suggests a wide variety of options faculty have to deliver their course content and continue their research. An important objective is to avoid the necessity for make-up classes on weekends or during planned breaks. Faculty questions regarding the implementation of the Academic Continuity Plan should be directed to department chairs. Feedback regarding the LSU Academic Continuity Plan should be directed to the LSU Office of Academic Affairs ([email protected]).
