MEDIA ADVISORY: LSU and Louisiana’s Largest Ports to Agree to Advance Cyber Talent, Protect Critical Infrastructure

March 15, 2023

BATON ROUGE – Media are invited to attend an event on Thursday, March 16 to announce an historic agreement between LSU, Port Fourchon and the four largest ports on the Mississippi River – Port of Greater Baton Rouge, Port of New Orleans, Port of South Louisiana and St. Bernard Port. The event will be held at the Port of New Orleans.

South Louisiana’s port complex is among the largest in the U.S. Nearly 60 percent of the country’s exported grain and nearly 100 percent of U.S. offshore oil is serviced through Louisiana’s ports. LSU will enter a new partnership initially with six of Louisiana’s largest ports to provide cybersecurity expertise and training for students through educational and research opportunities at the ports.

By partnering with LSU, Louisiana’s port system will be part of a new working group to identify opportunities to develop talent, research, business and economic development in port cybersecurity. These activities align with the Scholarship First Agenda, which is part of the message LSU President William F. Tate IV is sharing on the inaugural Scholarship First bus tour this week.
