Collectively, the Fall 2023 graduates have earned 62 service-learning credit hours
and have volunteered approximately 930 hours across their local and global communities
during their academic tenure at LSU. Our eight seniors represent four LSU senior colleges,
and three are members of the Roger Hadfield Ogden Honors College.
Some of this cohort’s volunteer opportunities include work with campus entities such
as the LSU Food Pantry and the LSU College of Engineering Society of Peer Mentors.
Their individual engagement efforts also extend off-campus with organizations such
as the Hospice of Baton Rouge, Volunteers in Public Schools (VIPS), Louisiana Arts and Science Museum, and several East Baton Rouge Parish schools. One student served abroad on an international
medical volunteer trip to Guatemala.
“This cohort of ECP graduates stands out in its commitment to community and mutual
benefit, whether on campus, across Baton Rouge, and beyond,” CCELL director Dr. Sarah
Becker said. “We are so proud of their work and cannot wait to see what they do in
their lives after graduation.”
CCELL and LSU Campus Life established the Engaged Citizen Program to support and recognize
the accomplishments of undergraduate students who engage significantly with their
communities to address critical community needs. Any undergraduate student can apply
to be a part of the program.
“Congratulations to these students for earning this distinction. These individuals
have exhibited leadership skills and have had a positive impact in the Baton Rouge
area and beyond. I am eager to see how these exceptional individuals will continue
to create a positive impact in the world as alumni of LSU,” said Josh Finch, Director
of Campus Life.
